AMMAN — Trade between Jordan and Sweden remains modest, but the two sides have expressed willingness to increase the volume, which amounted to JD39.9 million in the first eight months of this year, according Al-Mamlaka TV.

The balance of trade deficit, which stands at JD35.7 million, is clearly tilted in favor of Sweden.

Department of Statistics data shows that the value of Jordan’s exports to Sweden is a modest JD2.1 million, while its imports were worth JD37.8 million, for the same period.

The trade exchange between the two countries last year amounted to JD57.9 million, with a deficit of JD50.3 million dinars in favor of Sweden, while exports reached JD3.8 million dinars and imports JD54.1 million.

According to the data, the most important Jordanian imports from Sweden in 2021 were chemicals, medicines, machinery, electrical equipment, wood and wood pulp, paper and cardboard.

The most important Jordanian exports to Sweden in 2021 included vegetable products such dried dates and other food products.

On the occasion of the visit by the Swedish royals to Jordan, the Jordan Businessmen Association (JBA) organized the Jordanian-Swedish Business Forum on Tuesday. The forum seeks to enhance prospects for joint investment and economic cooperation between the business communities of both countries, according to a press release issued by the JBA.

JBA President Hamdi Tabbaa stressed the importance of the royal visit, which reflects the depth of the historical relations between the two countries.

Tabbaa said that the establishment of a joint Jordanian-Swedish Business Council will be announced on the sidelines of the visit, indicating the importance of Tuesday’s meeting for establishing future partnerships in areas of common interest.

The meeting was attended by a group of businessmen from both sides and representatives of the telecommunications and information technology sectors, the medical care sector, the water and energy sector, and the chemical sector.
