Quantron and Westgass Hydrogen have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to run and fuel hydrogen trucks across the Nordic countries. The two companies will combine their offerings with Quantron deploying fuel cell electric vehicles and Westgass Hydrogen supplying the fuel.
The cooperation will affect transport in Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, with Quantron aiming to begin its commercial rollout in Norway in 2024. They expect unnamed launch customers to run the first ten to 20 hydrogen trucks, with Westgass joining the list of preferred hydrogen suppliers.
Westgass Hydrogen is a Norwegian company that currently distributes and sells hydrogen at 25 retail sites in Norway.
Westgass will also partner in the supply of H2 for a future pan-European filling station network for Quantron and has joined the latter’s Clean Transportation Alliance. Quantron describes the CTA as part of a 360-degree platform to further profile the Quantron-as-a-Service (QaaS) business. Said business includes new vehicles and conversions, after-sales solutions, and the latest ‘Quantron Energy & Power Station’ division, which is to “realise the production of green hydrogen and electricity as a platform”.
Quantron CEO Michael Perschke previously described the business as offering “comprehensive solutions that include not only the vehicles themselves but also energy deliveries and the necessary infrastructure”.
The company adds the “Nordics and its high hydrogen affinity in heavy-duty transport was an ideal proving ground” for Quantron-as-a-service.
The company plans to deploy 500 fuel cell trucks in Norway alone by 2027.
Quantron’s cooperation with Westgass Hydrogen follows a recently announced partnership with Norwegian Hydrogen as now another of Quantron’s preferred hydrogen suppliers in the Nordics.
The company has also been active in the USA and signed its first clients in October 2022, as reported.
While they will work with third-party vehicle suppliers in the US, Quantron will most likely deploy its hydrogen truck in the Nordics. Presented in September last year, the latest QHM FCEV Heavy Truck is a tractor unit with a range of up to 1,500 kilometres. The fuel cells come from Ballard Power Systems.
